How to use the Danish concept of hygge during the darker months
The Danish concept of hygge emphasizes coziness and simplicity to increase contentment and wellbeing. This approach can be especially helpful during the darker winter months, as we are spending more time indoors and have more time for self-care and quieter activities.
Here are some ideas for how we can achieve hygge:
Mood Create a cozy atmosphere by dimming the lights. We can use candles and twinkly lights to create a magical home environment perfect for relaxation.
Be present Put aside your phone and be fully present. This is about slowing down and making the most of the here and now.
Connect Spend time with family and friends. Make time for sharing a meal and building friendships.
Simplicity Focus on small and simple activities that give you a sense of pleasure. Take the time to read a book. Make yourself a hot chocolate.
Comfort Build in activities that increase comfort. This is the time to get out the cosy jumper, have a hot bath, and make a crackling fire in the fireplace (or switch on a virtual fireplace on TV).
